For those that don't know me that well, I am an avid poker player. I'm damn good too. Very rarely do I get upset at a poker game or Tournament, but this weekend was slightly different....
I started out by driving about an hour and a half to Hollywood Casino at Penn National Raceway. Its about 90 miles from my house. Its not a bad drive, but if the truckers are out in full force, It can get a little hairy in my car.
Got to the Casino with about an hour or so to spare, paid my $100 buy in, and waited.... I pulled table two seat two, and I thought right away that maybe this was a sign of good luck. Luck in which I have needed lately because my card playing has been getting beaten horribly by mediocre hands. sometimes you have to get lucky in this game. I'm all for luck, except when it happens against me....
I was doing pretty good in the tournament after playing the first hour. I was in second place with the first place player sitting at my table. Then the hand hit, my chance at glory and to sit back and let luck take me to a cash finish.....
The hand:
I have the dealer button, First place player is in the big blind. Blinds are at 150-300
I get dealt Pocket Aces, So I raise $2000, for a total of $2300.
Big blind calls
Flop comes out: Ace of clubs, 4 of clubs, 5 of clubs
Big blind checks, I bet $3000
Turn Comes out: 5 of Diamonds....
I now have in what we call in poker a monster hand. The only cards that can beat me are 2,3 of clubs, or pocket 5's... either hand would have been a horrible call with my pre-flop raise...
Big Blind pushes all-in..... so I start to think, what does this guy have? Did he really call me pre flop with one of those two hands? There's no way, he's a better player than that..... I call, putting my tournament life in jeopardy...
I was wrong.... He's not a better player than that. I flip over what I thought was a monster of a hand... He flips over 2,3 of clubs.... River Card was the ten of hearts.
Straight Flush= Sam's out..... Time to hit the Craps Table....
The only luck that was on my side was bad luck....
I was so extremely mad at that hand, and obviously since I am writing about it three days later, I may still be a little pissy about it....
Oh well time to get over it!!!!!
