We May Never Know

The great question which I have not been able to answer, despite my 30 years of research into the feminine soul, is "what does a woman want"?

Is that the question of the year or what? What do women want? When a man thinks he knows what a woman wants, it changes. When we think we have you figured out, we don't. Wouldn't it be easier if women just came out and told us what they wanted? Why play games? Tell us exactly what you want, and we will tell you exactly what we want.... Seems like a pretty easy concept if you ask me, and I think in the long run, everyone will be happier...

Lol, blows my mind....

Pro Bowl

The Pro Bowl is a Joke.

I watched very little of that game last night, and there was no rush from the defense, so basically the game was a glorified seven on seven game, with all-star caliber players. The way I figure it is if you are going to get paid to be in the game, play the damn game!!!! There's just no incentive for the All-Stars in the NFL. I saw more gimmick plays in the ten minutes I watched the game then I saw all season. Oh well, I guess this is why they get paid to play and I sit and watch...

Anyway, the weekend went great. We had a pretty good turn out for the American Cancer Society Benefit on Saturday, Thanks for all that came, and a special thanks to all that helped out.

The rest of the weekend was more of the same, hung out at the Moose Lodge all weekend, played poker, and went to the gym. I'm on day 24 with no alcohol, and I am down 6 lbs last week.

Thanks for all the support everyone!!!

21 Days

"I long to accomplish a great and noble task, but it is my chief duty to accomplish small tasks as if they were great and noble." ~Helen Keller

Well everyone its been 21 days now since my last drink of alcohol, and quite honestly I FEEL GREAT!!!!

I have been going to the gym daily, and besides being sore in some places that I didn't know could get sore, I couldn't be better. Since the Ex left, its also been nice to not worry about anything but myself. I am number one, and nobody will take care of me like I can take care of myself. I also started to do the Weight Watchers on-line program for men. My goal is to be back at my army weight which is about 100lbs lighter then I am now. Who knows what may happen once I am back at weight... All I can tell you is I am preparing for a PT test... :D

Anyway, don't forget about the Charity Silent Auction and Poker Tournament this Saturday at the Frederick Moose Club. Its going to be a great time. Let me know if you need more details!

The Future

"Tomorrow is fresh, with no mistakes in it."  ~L.M. Montgomery
So i've been thinking about life lately, and have come up with this conclusion- Every Life is Your Own, The past doesnt matter, theres nothing you can change in the past. All you can do is change your future.

Some people I know learned this a long time ago, but what can I say, I'm a slow learner!

Anyway, for the people reading this blog that are local. There is a Silent Auction and Poker Tournament at the Frederick Moose Club on Saturday the 28th of January. Come on out, there will be a buffet, dance, and lots of great fun. I'll be there, come meet me for those of you that don't already know me. It benefits a local cancer victim and the American Cancer Society. Doors open at 5, Tournament starts at 6:30

Decisions

Decisions.... Some are tough, some are easy

I have made a lot of choices in my life lately, and they are starting to set it. Here's what I have started and or stopped so far:

1) I quit drinking alcohol completely. Been two weeks now. Its hard not seeing all my friends, but since they all hang out in bars for the most part, it has to be done for the time being.

2) I have went on a diet. Just started this, but my goal is to lose 3lbs a week until I am at 200lbs. I have a gym membership, so I may as well use it. Eating right is going to be the hard part, because everyone knows how much I love to eat.

3) I have started going back to church. I went to the national cathedral two weeks ago. Stayed for worship, then took pictures after service. I am going to start going to a church in Hagerstown this week.

4) I am going to start taking more pictures. I just have to find new interesting places to go. i can only go hang out in DC so much before it gets boring. Maybe I'll switch over to Baltimore, any other big city and i would have to stay in a hotel, and I'm trying to avoid that.

I continue to have great support from everyone, and I thank you! I couldn't do this without ever single person in my life.

New days are coming......

Football Postseason (Championship Games)

Wow did I look bad at picking games last week? I finished 2-2, The NFC did me in, blame the Packers and the Saints. The Giants and 49ers played next to perfect games, and actually forced the turn-overs to win the game. This week is going to be a lot of the same. So, here we go with my not so perfect picks.

Baltimore Ravens at New England Patriots- High powered offense versus a high powered defense. Quarterback play will be essential in this game, and even though I absolutely can't stand Tom Brady, Joe Flacco just doesn't have what it takes. He appeared flustered against a Texans defense last weekend. Brady wins this one. Running backs- Does New England even have a running back? Second question is do they even need one? I give the advantage to Ray Rice on this one. Defense will be tough for New England this weekend. The Ravens Defense wins games. They are the backbone of the team. Ravens win that one easily....

Defense wins championships.... But not this weekend Patriots 35-17. (This pick kills me)

New York Giants at San Francisco 49ers- Defense versus Defense, however the offense has shown up for both of these teams in recent weeks. Quarterbacks are tied, I cant choose Eli over Alex Smith the way Smith has been playing lately. It going to come down to who wants it more and who is better at being under pressure. Running backs- even though the Giants running game has showed a little life in the previous weeks, I have to give it to Frank Gore, the man is a beast. Defense.... How do I pick either one of these defenses after the games they just played? Both teams forcing turnovers and dominating the offense.

All that being said.... 49ers win, in Overtime 24-21

Even though I picked the Patriots in the first pick I will be rooting for the Ravens, I would love to see a Hargbaugh brothers Super Bowl!!!

Good Luck All, and pick wisely!!!!

Poker (Saturday Jan. 14, 2012)

For those that don't know me that well, I am an avid poker player. I'm damn good too. Very rarely do I get upset at a poker game or Tournament, but this weekend was slightly different....

I started out by driving about an hour and a half to Hollywood Casino at Penn National Raceway. Its about 90 miles from my house. Its not a bad drive, but if the truckers are out in full force, It can get a little hairy in my car.

Got to the Casino with about an hour or so to spare, paid my $100 buy in, and waited.... I pulled table two seat two, and I thought right away that maybe this was a sign of good luck. Luck in which I have needed lately because my card playing has been getting beaten horribly by mediocre hands. sometimes you have to get lucky in this game. I'm all for luck, except when it happens against me....

I was doing pretty good in the tournament after playing the first hour. I was in second place with the first place player sitting at my table. Then the hand hit, my chance at glory and to sit back and let luck take me to a cash finish.....

The hand:

I have the dealer button, First place player is in the big blind. Blinds are at 150-300

I get dealt Pocket Aces, So I raise $2000, for a total of $2300.

Big blind calls

Flop comes out: Ace of clubs, 4 of clubs, 5 of clubs

Big blind checks, I bet $3000

Turn Comes out: 5 of Diamonds....

I now have in what we call in poker a monster hand. The only cards that can beat me are 2,3 of clubs, or pocket 5's... either hand would have been a horrible call with my pre-flop raise...

Big Blind pushes all-in..... so I start to think, what does this guy have? Did he really call me pre flop with one of those two hands? There's no way, he's a better player than that..... I call, putting my tournament life in jeopardy...

I was wrong.... He's not a better player than that. I flip over what I thought was a monster of a hand... He flips over 2,3 of clubs.... River Card was the ten of hearts.

Straight Flush= Sam's out..... Time to hit the Craps Table....

The only luck that was on my side was bad luck....

I was so extremely mad at that hand, and obviously since I am writing about it three days later, I may still be a little pissy about it....

Oh well time to get over it!!!!!

Only God Knows Why By Kid Rock

Love this song, It could mean so many things

"Only God Knows Why"
By Kid Rock

I've been sittin here
Tryin to find myself
I get behind myself
I need to rewind myself
Lookin for the payback
Listen for the playback
They say that every man bleeds just like me
And I feel like number one
Yet I'm last in line
I watch my youngest son
And it helps to pass the time
I take too many pills it helps to ease the pain
I made a couple of dollar bills, but still I feel the same
Everybody knows my name
They say it way out loud
A lot of folks fuck with me
It's hard to hang out in crowds
I guess that's the price you pay
To be some big shot like I am
Out strecthed hands and one night stands
Still I can't find love

And when your walls come tumbling down
I will always be around

Yeah
As it...hey

And when your walls come tumbling down
I will always be around

People don't know about the things I say and do
They don't understand about the shit that I've been through
It's been so long since I've been home
I've been gone, I've been gone for way too long
Maybe I forgot all things I miss
Oh somehow I know there's more to life than this
I said it too many times
And I still stand firm
You get what you put in
And people get what they deserve
Still I ain't seen mine
No I ain't seen mine
I've been giving just ain't been gettin
I've been walking that there line
So I think I'll keep a walking
With my head held high
I'll keep moving on and only God knows why

Only God
Only God
Only God knows why, why, why, why
Only God...knows...why, why, why
Only God knows why
Take me to the river edge
Take me to the river, hey hey hey

Friggatriskaidekaphobia

Friggatriskaidekaphobia- The fear of Friday the 13th.

People fear things. Its a fact. Weddings, funerals, being alone, heights, etc. can be scary things. A day however? The only thing I noticed different about today from yesterday is the fact that I walked outside and instead of it being 60 degrees, it was 20 degrees....

Now, don't go thinking I'm just passing a human beings fears off. Everyone is different, but if you are afraid of Friday the 13th, how is it different from ever other day? I understand not liking the day because of superstition, it falls into the same category as rabbits feet, and broken mirrors. I guess it just comes down to whatever makes you feel better about your life. In the end that's all that matters...

Everyone have a great day and weekend! I'll be in a poker tournament Saturday, and I'll be at the gun range on Sunday so you probably wont hear from me this weekend.

Good Luck to all!!!!

Views

Sometimes the most soothing thing is a picture of water. Just to look at it and bring back memories, or to dream about that vacation you want to take, either way it will free your mind, and maybe even push you towards a goal of a vacation. Enjoy the pictures, they were taken on Chincoteague Island, Va.

Playoff Football- NFL

Ok, here it is: The real meat and potato's of the NFL season. Its playoff time baby!!!!

The top four teams from each conference advanced to the second round, but these games are nowhere easy to predict. Like always I will try my best to not disappoint.

1) N.O. Saints vs S.F. 49ers- top offense vs one of the most shut down defenses in the NFL. These two teams played in the preseason, but who ever talks about preseason. QB play goes to the Saints, NOBODY is better than Drew Brees this season, and in this game Alex Smith will be a non-factor. Running Backs, Frank Gore is a monster on the field, but the Saints 3 headed attack will keep up, no advantage to either team here. Defense wins championships, with that being said i should pick the 49ers for this one....

I'm not- Saints win 35-17

2) Denver Broncos vs N.E. Patriots- this one is very hard for me to pick. I absolutely cant stand the Patriots (as a Jets fan, this was born into me). How do you go against Tim Tebow? QB play goes to the Patriots even though Tebow has god in his corner. Running Backs, Gonna have to go with the Broncos, if you count Tebow as a running back. Defense goes to the Broncos. If the Broncos can play all four quarters like they did last week, they can win this.

They won't- Patriots 45-31

3) Houston Texans vs Baltimore Ravens- The Ravens have struggled at time this year against teams they should have beaten. The Texans are riding on not only a back up QB, but a third string. QB play Ravens, Flacco has it, easily. Running backs, This is going to be a very physical running game, but I am going to give this one to the Texans but only barely because of the back ups. Ben Tate is much better than Ricky Williams. Nobody is going to beat the Ravens Defense. In this this case the defense means it all.

Ravens win 24-21

4) New York Giants vs Green Bay Packers- The Packer have had one of the most dominating seasons ever. The Giants barely made the playoffs.... That being said though, they did make the playoffs. QB play, I have to go with Aaron Rodgers, Eli is good dont get me wrong, but not that good. Running backs, Niether team really has a tremendous running game, but I will have to lean toward the Giants. Defense, I'm going to have to go with the Packers, They just get it done.

Packers win 34-27

I hope everyone has enjoyed my picks this week, feel free to disagree, I make mistakes sometimes!

Thoughts

"Change your thoughts and you change your world."  -Norman Vincent Peale

Lately I have been thinking a lot, people know this because they can probably smell the smoke all the way in Europe. I have come to certain conclusions, some may make sense, some may not, but they all make sense in my head, and I think that's all that really matters.

1) Inner peace is accomplished by knowing that you can do anything. Put your mind to it and anything is possible.
2) Positive thoughts can change your outlook on anything. No matter the situation, there is something positive in there somewhere.
3) True happiness is always within you. Once you know that you are meant to be happy, you will be happy.
4) Your best friend in the world should be yourself. No matter what, your inner dialogue is always there for you.
5) As long as you believe in something, you are truly living.
6) Life isn't what you have in possessions, Life is what is in your mind. As long as you have a roof over your head, food and water to consume, and clothes on your back, you will survive. Everything else is just a bonus.
7) Positive people will help you through anything, and these are your true friends.
8) Love is not only a feeling, but also an experience.

Well there is the Philosophical side of Sam. Think about some of these things any maybe it can help you in your life just a little bit.

Also feel free to share my blog with anyone you wish, if I can touch just one person that makes everything well worth it.

National Championship

NOLA= No One Likes Alabama

Today's the big day sports fans, National Championship for college football.

Number 1 vs. Number 2.

My LSU Tigers vs. that other team. (Alabama if you are wondering).

The question is: Does Alabama even belong in this game? I promise to all of you "Roll Tide Fans" I wont bash your team (Too Much).

Here's the Facts-

- LSU won the first game in overtime 9-6, probably one of the best defensive showcases in NCAA history. (Advantage LSU)
- As far as the current BCS standings go LSU has beaten a 2, 5, 6, 23, and 25 (This isn't including all the teams that were ranked before LSU beat them.) Alabama has beaten a 6, 22, and 25. Welcome to the world of having a weak out of conference schedule, Bama..... (Advantage LSU)
- Change of Quarterback this week compared to the first meeting. Jordan Jefferson brings the option which Jarret Lee didn't. (Advantage LSU)
- Trent Richardson (Advantage Alabama)
- Coaches Les Miles vs. Nick Saban. I hate Saban, but I have to admit, he can coach (except for those few years in the NFL.... How did that work out?). However I cant go against the "Mad Hatter". (Advantage TIE).
-The Game is being played in the Superdome, a virtual home game for the Tigers. Alabama couldn't beat us in their home. (Advantage LSU).

OK, with all this being said How the heck is Alabama favored by 2.5pts?

I have to admit, watching both teams this season, that Alabama deserves to be in this game, however they shouldn't be favored. Lets face it, The National Championship was already played a few weeks ago, with LSU as the winners. My pick for the game: LSU 24, Alabama 17.

Love

Love...... What is it?

All through life I have struggled with the feeling. Is it made up? Do people force themselves to be in love? Here is what I have come up with.....

Love is the way you look into her eyes
Love is the feeling you get when she is in your arms.
Love is every time you kiss, it still like the first time.
Love is when shes the last thing you think of before you go to bed, and the first thing you think of when you wake up.
Love is letting her go, and praying she comes back. Even though every day without her kills you a little bit more on the inside.

That's all for now, I hate being sappy, but sometimes I just have to get things off my mind...

Picture

"Picture"(feat. Sheryl Crow)

[Kid Rock]
Livin' my life in a slow hell
Different girl every night at the hotel
I ain't seen the sun shine in 3 damn days
Been fuelin' up on cocaine and whisky
Wish I had a good girl to miss me
Lord I wonder if I'll ever change my ways
I put your picture away
Sat down and cried today
I can't look at you while I'm lyin' next to her
I put your picture away, sat down and cried today
I can't look at you, while I'm lyin next to her

[Sherly Crow]
I called you last night in the hotel
Everyone knows but they wont tell
But their half hearted smiles tell me
Somethin' just ain't right
I been waitin' on you for a long time
Fuelin' up on heartaches and cheap wine
I ain't heard from you in 3 damn nights
I put your picture away
I wonder where you been
I can't look at you while I'm lyin' next to him
I put your picture away
I wonder where you been
I can't look at you while I'm lyin' next to him
I saw ya yesterday with an old friend

[Kid Rock]
It was the same ole same "how have you been"

[Both]
Since you been gone my worlds been dark & grey

[Kid Rock]
You reminded me of brighter days

[Sheryl Crow]
I hoped you were comin' home to stay
I was headed to church

[Kid Rock]
I was off to drink you away

[Both]
I thought about you for a long time
Can't seem to get you off my mind
I can't understand why we're living life this way
I found your picture today
I swear I'll change my ways
I just called to say I want you to come back home
I found your picture today
I swear I'll change my ways
I just called to say I want you to come back home
I just called to say, I love you come back home

This song means so much to me. Some days I love it some days I hate it. I means love I have had, It means love I have lost, and finally it means love I am waiting for.

It makes me think every time i hear it though, and thats a good thing.

The Way You Look at Things

This is a conversation I had with a good friend of mine a while back, which has helped me daily. I will not name the friend, but she knows who she is. (May not be exact, but you get the point)

Me: Hows it going?
Her: Good, you?
Me: I've been better
Her: Whats wrong?
Me: I've been stuck in a rut lately, and it seems as though it is never going to end
Her: Sam it will get better, Just enjoy the things you have as they are
Me: I try, but it doesn't seem to help
Her: Sam, Go to your window and tell me what you see
Me: I see a car, tree, and the fact that my lawn needs to be mowed
Her: Go back to the window and look closer, look at how green the grass is, look at how the sun looks reflecting off of the ground, look at the rainbows in the dew on the grass. Its all there, you just need to look harder. Everything gets better, just enjoy the little things.
Me: Wow, I have never looked at it like that before, Thank you!!!

Since that day six months or so ago, I haven't looked at the world in quite the same light. Everything happens for a reason, and you just have to enjoy the finer points. I'm not saying that I don't get down, but when I do, I just think about that conversation, and what color is the grass really.

This was the view into work today. Taken with my Blackberry, on 70....

Crystal Ball

Sometimes I sit here and wonder what this world had in store for me. In Life, in love, in work, everything....

This is where a crystal ball would be handy. The question is though, do you really want to know every step that is going to happen? I have been lucky so far, I have gotten a lot, and gone a long way in life. Whats the next turn of events? Are the people who are currently in my life still going to be there in 10 years? I have thousands of friends and subscribers between Facebook and G+, but who's really there for you in the end? When you really need someone.

I know a few that will be with me through thick and thin, but I can count them on maybe two hands (family not included).

2012 is young, lets start with seeing where this year leads us.....
