Random Cowardness

Today, is yet another day that will live in our hearts and minds forever. We now have two days in a row that will remind us, to be humble, because we don't know when our last day will be on this earth. I am not a writer, though, I will attempt to put things into words.

An 8 year old sticks in my mind this morning. A child. Future ahead, not a care in the world other then video games and going to school every day. Its Patriots Day in Boston, Mass. Marathon starts at 9am, Red Sox play at 11am. This is a special day for all. Family takes their child to see the Boston Marathon, maybe a family member was running, maybe just there to see the sights. We all want to see it at some point, its a part of history. Maybe the child was excited to go.... Maybe, the child was just brought along and had no idea the magnitude of what was happening. 27,000 runners entered, first runners cross the finish line at 1330. The time is now 1450, two explosions rock the event. Rock the world. The child is one of three dead. The child is now a statistic of a cowards calling. 3 dead, and over 140 injured. All during a sporting event. Stop and think about that for a second. An entire future ended for what? What is this world coming to. This wasn't a military event, this was a family. People who some have saved or trained their entire life to make it to the event. This is just something you pay to get into, you qualify. Random Cowardness....

We are also reminded of yet another random act of gutlessness that happened 7 years ago today. Small town, big college. Blacksburg, Va. Students going to school, so that they have a future. 32 dead, 23 injured (one Gunman dead, bringing the total to 33). Another senseless act of violence. This is our future dying right before our eyes. I spent the day calling friends to make sure that they were all OK. That day, no matter military or college affiliate, we all bled maroon and orange...

My point is, when does it end? What makes people want to kill innocent people? Some people live in fear day to day because it was their family that was senselessly killed. When can we get an education or attend a sporting event and not have to worry about craziness? These are things we should feel safe at. Sit back, drink a beer, and not worry about anything for a few hours.

These people need to be stopped. We don't need knee jerk reactions, we just need actions. Find out who did this to us, to our families, to our friends, and take care of the situation. Whether it involves disarming a country, sending more troops, or even deporting known terrorists....

We need to do something...

  1. FYI: The word is cowardice, not cowardness.
