Happy Friday All!!!! Well as of tomorrow I will be at the beach, enjoying two whole weeks of sun, fishing, and crabbing, with good friends and family!!!
Well yesterday, I had somebody ask me what was wrong with me. I asked back "what do you mean"?
This person said "Sam you have everything going right in your life, good job, nice house, nice car, lots of people that love you and like you.... Why would you want to risk giving all of that up by going into the Army and possibly dying".... (I love when people are as blunt as me)....
"But Sam, you have nothing to gain by serving again, you already have veterans benefits.."
"Oh, Really? Is that all that serving means to some people??? To me, its more then just that. Its being proud of your country. Its having your brothers and sisters standing beside you in a time of need, Its going out and saying that I do this because others don't want to. Its a retirement, benefits, and the proud fact that I was born and bred to serve the greatest country on earth."
"Well, since you put it that way, I still think you are crazy".....
I ended the conversation after that. I do this because I can, and because I love too. Yes I have a good job, great friends and family that support me, and everything else that I have wanted and then some. I still have a lot too do in this life, and this is one of them.
Peace all, I'm on vacation in about 8 hours or so!!!!

In response, I said "because I have all of this is why it is a perfect time for me to do this again. I don't think of dying (who does), but if it happens, First off I'm not ready to go easily, second, I have lived a great life, there have been ups and downs, but no matter what I have always done things my way. I have no regrets on anything I have done."

"Travelin' Soldier"
Performed by the Dixie Chicks
Performed by the Dixie Chicks
Two days past eighteen
He was waiting for the bus in his army green
Sat down in a booth in a cafe there
Gave his order to a girl with a bow in her hair
He's a little shy so she gives him a smile
And he said would you mind sittin' down for a while
And talking to me,
I'm feeling a little low
She said I'm off in an hour and I know where we can go
So they went down and they sat on the pier
He said I bet you got a boyfriend but I don't care
I got no one to send a letter to
Would you mind if I sent one back here to you
Chorus: I cried
Never gonna hold the hand of another guy
Too young for him they told her
Waitin' for the love of a travelin' soldier
Our love will never end
Waitin' for the soldier to come back again
Never more to be alone when the letter said
A soldier's coming home
So the letters came from an army camp
In California then Vietnam
And he told her of his heart
It might be love and all of the things he was so scared of
He said when it's getting kinda rough over here
I think of that day sittin' down at the pier
And I close my eyes and see your pretty smile
Don't worry but I won't be able to write for awhile
[Chorus]
One Friday night at a football game
The Lord's Prayer said and the Anthem sang
A man said folks would you bow your heads
For a list of local Vietnam dead
Crying all alone under the stands
Was a piccolo player in the marching band
And one name read but nobody really cared
But a pretty little girl with a bow in her hair
[Chorus x2]
